Improve your smile and prevent tooth loss with porcelain dental crowns in Petaluma, CA

North Bay Smiles is committed to providing high-quality restorations for patients who need advanced care. Porcelain dental crowns are used by Dr. Szyperski to preserve damaged teeth and prevent extractions after a root canal, as well as providing a realistic-looking smile. Patients in the Petaluma, CA, area can come to us for their dental needs, no matter how advanced, and we’ll form a treatment plan to protect their oral health.

Dental crowns offer a versatile treatment option

Dental crowns act as caps for your teeth, and they can be used to restore functionality to damaged teeth or as a cosmetic treatment for staining or damage. Porcelain crowns can also replace missing teeth when combined with a dental implant or used to anchor a bridge.

Our goal is to prevent issues with your oral health as much as possible, and dental crowns allow us to preserve your natural teeth to prevent bone loss and other issues in your mouth. Dental crowns allow you to chew your food safely without the risk of cracking your tooth or stressing your jaw, and they can last for decades with proper care.

How crowns are placed

Crowns are generally recommended after a large cavity is filled or after a root canal procedure. They are also often used when a cracked tooth has a risk of breaking. Dr. Szyperski will prepare your tooth by removing the outer portion of enamel to make space for the crown. She may use dental bonding to add structure to the tooth. She’ll round off the tooth to allow the crown to form a tight seal and take impressions to send to the dental lab. Next, she’ll place a temporary crown to protect your tooth while you wait.

After a couple of weeks, you’ll return to the office to have your crown placed. Dr. Szyperski will remove the temporary crown and check the fit of your permanent one. She can make adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit, and once you’re happy, she’ll bond it into place using dental cement. Once the adhesive is cured, you can leave the office and resume your normal routine. Caring for your crown is no different than your regular brushing and flossing routine.
